I worked REALLY REALLY hard to create these English lyrics. I made the lines rhyme like ABAB CDCD whenever possible to match English song lyrics' convention, and tried to keep each line at 8 syllables.
GACKT's lyrics for Pulling my Strings (Kugutsu ga Gotoku) is generally consistent at 12 syllables per line, typical of Japanese poetry. What I mean is, Haiku, Senryuu, Tanka, Waka, etc. (types of Japanese poetry) all use a combination of 5 and 7 syllables per line (and 5+7 is 12). 12 syllables didn't work in English - too wordy.
