Shocking video shows hungry polar bear brutally shot in the head

WAINWRIGHT, ALASKA — A hungry polar bear was brutally killed by hunters in Alaska after it was drawn to the shore by a whale carcass.

The video, posted by user Maliko to LiveLeak, shows several hunters standing near the giant dead body of the whale while watching a polar bear swimming toward the shore.

The hunters fired several shots into the water, but this did not deter the polar bear, which then crawled up to the shore. One of the hunters, identified as Michael Agnasagga, killed the animal with a single shot to the head.

"The crew caught the whale and brought it to town, and we hauled it up, and I guess around that time the bear was hungry enough to come in. People started hollering out for a gun in case it tried to attack some people," Agnasagga told KTUU, adding that the polar bear meat was "good" and "it fed other people in the village".

Although it seem brutal, the law enforcement chief of U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife in Anchorage said in a statement that it is legal to kill a polar bear under the 'Native exemption' of the Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1973.
