Striking NASA Image Shows Thousands Of Fires Burning Simultaneously In Africa

A NASA satellite image shows fires are covering much of Central Africa, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

A NASA satellite image shows fires are covering much of Central Africa, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. 

Based on the positioning and spacing of the red, blaze-representing dots it’s believed the burning is intentional. 

Setting the earth alight is a common practice among farmers, as it serves to put nutrients back into the soil and clear away plants that are no longer useful.

So many fires burning at once indicates that agricultural season has arrived. 

The natural color image was taken on May 18 by the Suomi NPP satellite.
