Rio 2016: 31 athletes face bans over doping violations

Thirty one athletes are facing bans from the Rio Games this summer after returning positive doping tests, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has said.
A total of 31 competitors saw 454 of their 2008 samples retested using contemporary analysis methods, which ultimately found positive results for banned substances.
Proceedings against athletes who have infringed anti-doping rules will begin immediately and all could be banned from competing in Rio.
"All these measures are a powerful strike against the cheats we do not allow to win," IOC president Thomas Bach said.
