If you like to watch biopics ad verbatim then Azhar sure claims that it is not an exact story of the versatile cricketer Azharuddin. However it does take a leaf out of his dark period and shows the sting operation carried by a fellow player Manoj who involves him in a match fixing scandal which is by now known to every person who is even remotely involved with cricket. The story weaves around how Azhar the protagonist played by Emraan Hashmi is reduced to being a traitor from the hero who completes his 99 th Test Match.

Lara Dutta plays the strong prosecution in charge who fights the case slapped on him and tries to prove the allegations true. Prachi Desai plays the role of Azhar’s first wife who quietly bears through the toughest times in the cricketer’s life. There are scenes which show Prachi and Nargis Fakhri having an altercation which actually may not have happened in real life however Sangeeta Bijlani the character played by Nargis Fakhri fits her to a T.

There are some touching moments like Azhar’s interaction with his first wife and of coursethe passion between him and Sangeeta. However one should say that Emraan takes the
cake of performance and plays an unbeaten century in the entire set up. For an avid cricketer this is a sure watch and for those who wish to watch a movie and have fun this could be a safe bet.
Overall with the music, the background and the storyline we give it 3 stars.
