I had this fail a while ago and finely got around to fixing it.
pt 1 this is what one of these chucks should act like.

I decide to try and save the rusty Ettco chuck I got for a few dolars at an estate sale. I had not heard of Ettco, but a quick web search showed they are a company .
We break down a 3A 5/8 capacity Jacobs chuck for a cleaning and a jaw replacement.
