'Ki & Ka' Movie Review By Pankhurie Mulasi | Arjun Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor

Kareena’s character Kia is a corporate robot jiska dream hai apni company ka CEO banana, Arjun’s character Kabir on the other hand is a B-School topper jise apni famous realtor dad jaisa nahi apni housewife mom jaisa banana hai.

The duo meet each other on a Chandigarh-Delhi flight, sparks fly, love blossoms aur ye tay karney ke baad ki after marriage Kia will go to office and Kabir will manage the house, they tie the knot much to Kia’s mom amusement and Kabir’s dad’s disappointment, who asks him to do a chaddhi check kyunki mard ghar nahi sambhaltey!

While Kia climbs up the corporate ladder, Kabir turns their house in to a railway museum and dishes out delicious delicacies for his saasu maa and wife. Apne unconventional job ki wajah se Kabir kaafi popular ban jaatey hai. He becomes the poster boy for housewives, Torch bearer of feminism and a social media star

However, things become ugly between the couple, when Kia starts getting jealous and insecure of Kabir’s rising popularity. Film fir Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan starrer Abhimaan ka track pakdh leti hai and what happens next forms the rest of the plot…

Film ka sabse badha problem ye hai ki while trying to break gender stereotypes, it ends up reinforcing them. Balki ji hamein samjh agaya that Ka is the househusband and Kia is the breadwinner but you didn’t have to thrust it down our throats with incessant lectures on the same.

The film’s concept thrilled me no end lekin iskey weak plot aur shoddy execution ne mujhe kaafi disappoint kia. Kabir aur Kia flight mein miltey hai jisme Kabir ro raha hota hai wo bhi subak subak ke… a woman as strong as Kia would run miles away from a guy like this lekin uske bad dono wahan se seedha pub mein prty karne jaatey hai.

Jab kabir Kia ko batata hai ki wo apni housewife mom jaisa banana chahta hai, Kia makes some snide comment about it in a restaurant aur kabir wahan par his us pe chilla ke chala jata hai. Y would a woman jiska is bandey se kuch lena dena nahi hai, would tolerate this behavior and on top of that apologise to him for days… Audience ke dimaag mein ek hi baat chalti hai kyunki wo ek amir baap ka beta hai.. gareeb hota to she would have cared a damn…

Shaadi ke baad instead of Kia, Kabir decides to wear his mom’s magalsutra. Was it really needed? Mangalsutra pehanaya hai to maa ki saadhiya bhi rahi hongi wo bhi pehan detey balki ji.

Puri filmmein aapko Kareena ghar se boardroom aur boardroom se ghar jatey huey dikhti and her husband is only seeing cooking. Puri film mein log sirf khana khaa rahey hai and jo bacha khucha space hai usme thodhi si story hai.. Film mein itne products ki branding hai ki you will feel you are watching a two hour ad film. So now you know what to expect from the movie..

Let’s talk about performances, Kareena is not only looking pretty but she also given a fab performance. Her Kia is strong independent and confident and she has done full justice to the role. Sadly we can’t say the same about Arjun. He has sleepwalked throughout the movie and looks lethargic. Their jodi is refreshing but they lack chemistry. They have a lot of intimate scenes but they fail to set the screens ablaze.

Swaroop Sampot ne Kia ki ma aka roel nibhaya hai and she has done a fantastic job. Rajit Kapoor has played Kabir’s father aur aap unki acting definitely enjoy karengey.

Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan have a cameo appearance in the film and it won’t be wrong to say that their presence and endearing chemistry is the only saving grace of the movie.

After watching the trailer I had very high expectations from the movie however, after watching it I cant believe that a genius like Balki has come up with this disappointing fare.

Film ka screenplay bahut hi wahiyaat hai, the dialogues will make you cringe as they are very clichéd aur unki wajah se Ki aur Ka ke characters bahut caricaturish lagtey hai. Mujhe nahi lagta high heel sk alawa film ka koi aur gaana apko yaad rahega.

I will give ki and Ka 1 and a half star. Go and watch this film if you have nothing better to do this weekend.
