'Udta Punjab’ Idea Was Triggered By An Investigative Report In A Magazine

Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan will be next seen in Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab, which revolves around rampant drug abuse in Punjab and we hear that a report in a national magazine about drug dependency in Punjab, triggered the idea for this film.
It seems that the makers had got to know from an investigative report in a national magazine about the rampant drug use in Punjab and that Punjab's opioid dependents are four times more than the global average! This report was itself based on a study and this inspired the makers to come up with a film on the social issue.
Udta Punjab will have Shahid playing a rock star, while Kareena will play a doctor and Alia will play a Bihari migrant labourer. The trailer of the film is slated to be unveiled today.
