A South Carolina judge delayed the death-penalty trial of Dylann Roof, who killed nine black parishioners in June 2015, until next year Roof's defense lawyers had their request granted after providing documents stating a doctor needed two to six more months to complete psychiatric testing of Roof. Circuit Judge J.C. Nicholson moved the trial from July 11 to Jan. 17 Roof is facing numerous counts, including hate crimes, in federal court
