Researchers from University of Tokyo have produced a protective layer of ultrathin organic material that can show an e-skin display containing an organic LED.

It's hoped the material will soon enable the production of displays for blood oxygen level, heart rate sensors and more.

According to a summary of the research, "The group developed the protective film by alternating layers of inorganic...and organic...material. The protective film prevented passage of oxygen and water vapor in the air, extending device lifetimes from the few hours seen in prior research to several days."
