Tension high in Brazil as impeachment vote looms
  • 8 years ago
Sunday's vote on whether to impeach Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff will come down to the wire as both sides in the congress are nearly deadlocked.
And it's expected to be no different on the streets in South America's largest nation, as hundreds of thousands of protesters and thousands of police officers are expected to throng the streets in Brazil's major cities.
The mood is tense.
Brazil's lower house of Congress will begin deliberating Sunday afternoon whether to impeach Rousseff on charges that she misappropriated funds from public banks to shore up the government's finances as she faced a tough re-election in 2014.
