University of Nebraska Omaha student kicked out of sorority for Tinder photo

OMAHA, NEBRASKA — University of Nebraska Omaha student, Shannon Workman, was kicked out of her sorority, sparking social media outrage.

The 20-year-old was booted when the sisterhood discovered a photo of Workman sporting sorority Chi Omega letters in a photo on Tinder. The photo showed Workman sandwiched between two fellow sorority sisters from the Zeta Delta chapter, her big and little. All three were dressed in sorority attire from an event.

Following the incident, Workman's mother Jill Svendsen Workman took to Facebook posting a cropped version of the photo in question and writing, "It was described as promiscuous and risqué. And was accused of using it for hook ups. ANYONE that knows my daughter even a little bit knows that this is not the case."

According to her mother, as reported by "New York Daily News," Chi Omega has a "Human Dignity" rule, stating that sisters would not post photos wearing their letters on any platform that would bring "disrespect to the chapter."

Workman was called into a meeting with sorority advisors to discuss her membership. Fearing something was going on, the college student recorded the conversation on her phone where she can be heard saying, "I was just being honest."

Another former Chi Omega member Lacey McPhail commented on Facebook saying she was also kicked out of the sorority. McPhail wrote on her own Facebook page, "Chi Omega Zeta Delta is CORRUPT and not run at all by the girls actually active in the sorority, everything is decided by the advisors who do not live up to their own standards and rules."

In March, the sorority had gone through a complete restructuring, with the president and most members in charge kicked out, Workman's mother told "New York Daily News."

The two girls she posed with in the picture have also left Chi Omega.
