Air France asks pilots to fly more amid cost cuts
  • 8 years ago
Air France made an offer to its pilots in effort to end monthslong negotiations over cost-cutting as the airline strives to become more competitive.
The company asked pilots to accept lower hourly pay in exchange for five to 10 percent more flying hours so average revenue for pilots won’t fall.
"The cost per hour of flying falls, this is necessary for the company to be competitive, but this is done in the context of more flying hours, so no one loses out...Overall, pilot pay won't drop,” said AirFrance CEO Frédéric Gagey.
Air France also committed to hire more than 600 pilots by 2020, raising the total number to 3,900.
Pilots unions have until May 2 to respond to the proposal.
