AUSTIN, TEXAS — Authorities are investigating the death of a University of Texas at Austin student whose body was found on campus and later identified as Haruka Weiser, a freshman dance major from Portland.

ABC 13 reports that 18-year-old Weiser was last seen leaving the drama building around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday. She was returning to her dorm but never made it, prompting a roommate to report her missing the next morning.

Around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, campus police found her body in Waller Creek, next to the Alumni Center. Classmates said the creek trail was Weiser's usual route home, reports the Austin American-Statesman.

Though details of her death have not been released, investigators say Weiser was assaulted before being killed, and classified her death as a homicide.

Police are currently looking for a person of interest in the case, who was seen on surveillance video the night Weiser was killed. Believed to be a six-foot-tall and black, the man was walking a red or pink women's bike in the area, according to KXAN. The public is being urged to help identify the person in the video, as well as offer any information that could lead to an arrest.
