Officials at a Swiss school district said they would not withdraw from a new policy that surfaced after Muslim students refused to shake the hands of female teachers The two students in Therwil reportedly said the mandatory handshakes defied their religious beliefs School officials responded that those students would not have to shake the hands of any teacher, male or female Handshakes at the beginning and end of classes are customary across Switzerland The country’s teachers’ union argued everyone should follow the same rules
