Using your cell phone on the toilet is like not washing your hands

ENGLAND — Using your cell phone while on the toilet could cause the spread of salmonella, E. Coli and C. Difficile.

Metro UK spoke with hygiene expert Dr. Lisa Ackerley, who told the news outlet that bacteria found in restrooms can be transferred from hands to cell phones if you're not careful.

"If you wipe your bum then pick up your phone, you may as well not bother washing your hands because all the bacteria you put on your phone will end up back on your hands," Ackerley said. "They might be your germs. They might be somebody else's from the flush."
And according to Dr. Ron Cutler, director of biomedical science degrees at Queen Mary's University London, "You just shouldn't (take your phone into the toilet) if you are at all concerned about the transfer of viruses and fecal contamination."

But if you wash your hands well and be mindful of what you touch, including your phone, you'll be just fine.
