People of varying cultures and languages express dissatisfaction and disapproval in a number of ways, but researchers found many do share one common behavior.

Their study, which was led by Aleix Martinez, a cognitive scientist from The Ohio State University, revealed the ‘not face’ is largely universal.
The expression, which is often comprised of pursed lips, furrowed brows, and lifted chins, existed among all of the study’s roughly 160 participants. 
Languages tested in the research included English, Mandarin Chinese, Spanish, and American Sign Language, or ASL.
