On March 13, a circular solar prominence exploded off the sun’s surface, forming a blazing ring before ultimately collapsing upon itself.

For those of us on Earth, the sun is something that brings light and life, but up close, the orb is a fiery and unpredictable force.

Evidence of our star’s volatile and dramatic nature was recently spotted by the Solar Dynamic Observatory.

On March 13th, a circular solar prominence exploded off the sun’s surface, forming a blazing ring before ultimately collapsing upon itself.

NASA released a video of the event, which it strung together using images that were taken at 12-second intervals.
