Many small- and medium-sized companies in China struggle to secure loans from the country's big banks and are applying to list on a little-known stock market, the National Equities Exchange and Quotations (NEEQ), and as the world's second-largest economy falters, Beijing is counting on these small, private firms to help move it away from dependency on heavy industry and state-owned enterprises.
