Sound engineer Yoshihito Nakanishi developed an electronic drum he calls an "Open Mesh Pad" to help children with disabilities recognise the rhythm of music -- it produces sound only when hit if the surface is lit up by LED lights activated by a teacher using an electronic keyboard.
