As all were defeated in the hands of the Lord Ganesh, Lord Brahma thought he will be able to tackle the situation with his tricks but he too left fuming with anger and humiliation after he was defeated.
Lord Shiva’s anger grew. He started doing his ‘tandav nritya’. Lord Vishnu and Goddess Laxmi went to Kailash Parbat to calm Lord Shiva down. In a fit of rage he beheaded Bal Ganesh with his ‘trishul’. When Parvati heard the news she came rushing and demanded Lord Shiva to grant back Ganesh his life.

After a lot a dilemma Lord Shiva ordered his disciples to get a head of any living creature sleeping with his face in the north direction and they left in search of what is required.
