Using NASA’s Hubble Telescope, a team of astronomers has found a galaxy that is seriously far, far away.
In fact, it’s so way out there, the system known as GN-z11 is a record-setter for distance.
The light detected coming from it is estimated to be about 13.4 billion years old, just 400 million years shy of the Big Bang.
While that’s certainly a notable achievement for the astronomers, it is also considered a huge win for the Hubble itself.
Many believed the telescope had already achieved its performance maximum, and that discoveries such as GN-z11 wouldn’t occur until the James Webb Telescope is up and running.
