The Simpsons - What does America stand for?

I LOVE The Simpsons and was shocked that this video was not up on YouTube. It is VERY relevant to the current U.S. presidential race with candidates such as Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Party and Donald Trump in the Republican Party. It comes from the 1990 episode in The Simpsonss first season titled Crepes of Wrath ( In it, Adil criticizes Americas wealth disparity while Lisa defends it. In response Homer says both are right, saying: Maybe Lisa is right about America being the land of opportunity, but maybe Adil is right about the machinery of capitalism oiled with the blood of the workers. Note that this episode was published before the end of the Cold War, so Id argue that even this is a bold claim. Still, the episode didnt really attract any controversy at the time. Enjoy!
