Heartwarming footage of a 13-month-old boy who had a tracheostomy hearing his voice for the first time.

The video, filmed in Texas, USA last year, shows John Miller appearing to be very happy at hearing his own voice.

The filmer later wrote online: "John Miller had worn his trach since he was around six months old after it was placed by surgeons.

"Since then he had been silent."

"On this evening, his speech therapist had given his family what is known as a 'speaking valve' which would allow air to exit through his vocal cords," he continued.

"You can see his happy expression after hearing his own voice for the first time in six months.

"Pictured in the video is his mother, Jacqueline Miller, his grandmother and nurse Patricia Holder.

"His father, Thomas Miller, was holding the camera."

John was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Catel-Manzke syndrome, which affects the skeletal and muscle structure.

According to his father, he is the first US patient diagnosed with the syndrome.
