Aurora are a breathtaking sight when observed from the ground, but apparently when facing them head-on, they can seem a bit eerie. 

Thanks to astronaut Tim Peake, people can now make the stunning-or-spooky decision for themselves. 

He snapped a photo of a glowing mass as the ISS headed out of one. 

Peake posted the photo to Twitter along with the message, "The @Space_Station just passed straight through a thick green fog of #aurora…eerie but very beautiful.”
