SEATTLE — Seattle police have released dashcam video of officers fatally shooting a man in Wedgwood on Sunday, the Seattle Police Department reported on its website.

The man was identified as 46-year-old Che Taylor, already convicted for assault, robbery and rape and legally prohibited from possessing a weapon.

Around 3:30 p.m., police were conducting surveillance in the 2200 block of Northeast 85th Street. They were investigating a suspicious car in the area, when they saw a man holding a handgun. The officers called for an additional unit, while Taylor was standing at the passenger door of a white Ford Taurus.

A patrol vehicle approached the car, and the officer asked Taylor to show his hands and to get on the ground. According to police, Taylor reached for his handgun and this is why they opened fire.

Police recovered Taylor's handgun, along with what appeared to be cocaine and black tar heroin.

Two other people were taken into custody in connection to Taylor, one of whom was found in possession of heroin.

An investigation of the shooting has been opened.
