BBC Radio Interview - The Big Conversation with Paul Stainton

Junior doctors today (12th January 2016) went on the first strike in 40 years. A regrettable turn of events which no doctor wants, but has been forced into because of a contract imposition which

i) removes the robust national safeguards which prevent doctors working excessive hours
ii) cuts out the minimum break requirements
iii) fundamentally changes the normal working week to add a day when hospital resources are lacking
iv) disadvantages doctors who work less-than-full-time and have families.

This is unsafe for doctors, unsafe for patients, and will lead to an exodus of doctors from the NHS. And many of us believe that this is the first step for the dismantling of the NHS by hook or by crook.
