Don't set your iPhone's date to January 1, 1970! The fastest trick to BRICK an iPhone!
If you have an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, do not change your date to May 1970 or earlier. Do that and risk bricking your iOS device, said Apple on its Apple Support website.

In a brief statement, the technology giant wrote: "Manually changing the date to May 1970 or earlier can prevent your iOS device from turning on after a restart. An upcoming software update will prevent this issue from affecting iOS devices."
ZDNet and the Guardian reported that the "1970" bug affects iOS devices with 64-bit processors running iOS 8 or 9, including the iPhone 5s and above, the iPad Air and above, the iPad mini 2 and the sixth-gen (2015) iPod touch.

According to Wired, the bug was first discovered by users last week, via an image of a fake Apple "ad" that reportedly originated in 4Chan.

The image encouraged users to unlock a retro Macintosh theme on their iPhone simply by changing the date to Jan 1, 1970.
