Hillary Clinton, Shifting Line of Attack, Paints Bernie Sanders as a One-Issue Candidate
  • 8 years ago
Hillary Clinton set out on Saturday to blunt one of Bernie Sanders’s most potent arguments against her, attacking the Vermont senator as a one-note rival whose relentless focus on Wall Street excess and exorbitant political spending would do little to improve the lives of Americans.
Accompanied by a phalanx of Democratic politicians and union leaders, Mrs. Clinton reminded her audience of how difficult it was for the ill to obtain health insurance before President Obama’s health care overhaul.
And in a state with one of the highest unemployment rates in the country, she promised to focus closely on creating jobs and raising wages, saying the American middle class could not renew itself without a broader agenda than Mr. Sanders offered.
“I want you to not only tell people what you’re against — what we’re fighting against, what we’re going to stop,” said Mrs. Clinton, in an apparent jab at Mr. Sanders.
“I want you to tell them what you’re for.”
