Indian cops to use chilli ball slingshots to tackle protesters
  • 8 years ago
NEW DELHI, INDIA — Indian riot police in Haryana State are to employ new non-lethal measures as ways of controlling protesters and violent crowds, a top ranking policeman announced Wednesday.

When faced with rioters, instead of using the traditional wooden sticks, or lathis, to restore order, officers will use slingshots, the police inspector general for Hisar district told AFP. The slingshots will fire chilli balls and marbles.

The new measures were implemented in a bid to cause minimum collateral damage. He added that it was much better than firing plastic bullets which can "cause pretty bad injuries."
