The Dutch National Police is testing out a new means of removing unwelcome drones from the sky – trained eagles.

While some are working hard to figure out how to get more drones into the sky, others are focusing on ways to get unwelcome, unmanned crafts, out of their airspace.

The Dutch National Police is among the latter and is testing out a new means of removal – trained eagles.

Efforts to teach the birds of prey how to spot and disable the machines are proving successful.

Based on a demonstration video, the eagle featured has little trouble using its sizable talons to get a firm grasp on the drone and bring the craft down.

However, questions have been raised about how safe the means is for the bird. 

Drone rotors are sharp and move quickly, presenting a risk of bodily harm.
