ISIS connected EgyptAir mechanic possible bomber of Russian MetroJet

SHARM EL-SHEIKH, EGYPT — According to information received by Reuters, an airline mechanic may have helped plant the bomb which brought down a Russian MetroJet flight over Egypt in November. Citing unnamed senior airline security sources, Reuters reports that a mechanic for EgyptAir in Sharm el-Sheikh might have received a bomb from ISIS to destroy Russian MetroJet flight 9268.

MetroJet flight 9268 from Sharm el-Sheikh to St. Petersburg exploded over the Sinai desert on November 1, killing all 224 aboard.

Reuters sources say the EgyptAir mechanic has a cousin who joined ISIS in Syria a year and a half ago. Upon learning of the mechanic, ISIS delivered a bomb in a handbag to him, with instructions to get it onto the MetroJet plane.

Two Airport policemen at Sharm el-Sheikh are also suspected to have turned a blind eye, or did not properly screen the EgyptAir mechanic. A baggage handler is suspected of helping the mechanic plant the bomb, which ISIS previously claimed was disguised as a canned beverage.

Reuters reports that the mechanic, baggage handler, and two airport police are still in custody but have not been formally charged. However EgyptAir denies any of its employees have been arrested. Egypt's government has formally said they have no evidence the plane was brought down by a bomb.
