Painted Bunting Greenie

New Painted Bunting arrives in the Backyard - this late arrival is a "Greenie" as females and immature males are called - and is probably an immature male as you can begin to see a darkening of the belly feathers which will ultimately turn a bright red in its second season. Probably due to unusually warm weather their migration has been slowed and perhaps dissipated so there are less of them in the Backyard this winter and so far only one primary- colored mature male.
