Three inmates break out of maximum security jail in California

SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA — Three inmates, including an accused murderer, escaped from the Orange County jail in Santa Ana last Friday.

The escaped inmates were identified by authorities as Hossein Nayeri, 37, Jonathan Tieu, 20, and Bac Duong, 43. They were living in a housing tank shared with 65 other inmates known as Mod F at the Central Jail Complex, the Orange County Register reported.

The men allegedly escaped sometime between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. on Friday. Officials believe they cut through half-inch steel bars, made their way into a plumbing tunnel and then to an unsecured part of the jail roof. From here, it's suspected they slid down four stories using a makeshift rope.

According to the Orange County Register, authorities suspect other inmates have staged a disturbance in order to delay the scheduled nightly headcount. It wasn't known that the three were missing until 9 p.m.

The U.S. Marshals Service is offering a $30,000 reward and the FBI, $20,000 for information leading to the trio's arrest.
