[Video #9] from the address for MetalGuruMessiahs Musical Paint Box! Check out my other videos!
My 9th video in a series I plan for some of my favorite songs from the past.
I Never Loved Eva Braun is from The Boomtown Rats 1978 album, A Tonic For The Troops. Its a very funny song, although of course the subject matter is controversial and very unfunny.
I thought the song would work well behind clips from Charlie Chaplins great 1940 film, The Great Dictator. There are many classic scenes in this movie, but the globe scene is one of the best, so i incorporated this scene into the video. The militaristic nature of the song worked perfectly with the clip of the marching drummers.
The rendering of this video was for some reason a serious challenge. The clips were mostly from very old original sources so they were not the smoothest to work with. Video edits not matching slide-timing exactly has been a source of frequent frustration when incorporating video into slideshows.
[Lyrics]
Are you really going out with Adolf?
I never loved Eva Braun (oh no?)
No, a thousand people say I did (oh yeah?)
Yeah, she was just some girl who was on the make (Yes, we see)
Boy she wanted to be so big.
And in the end it got to be a drag,
Shes doing her exercises every day
No matter what people say,
I never loved Eva Braun.
I never heard all the screams (oh no?)
I never saw the blood and dirt and gore (oh yeah?)
That wasnt part of the dream, (yes, we see)
Of maps and generals and uniforms.
Id always like the big parade,
I always wanted to be adored,
In 33 I knew I had it made,
I never loved..
Eva Braun wasnt history,
She wasnt even part of my destiny
She never really fitted in the scheme of things
She was a triumph of my will,
Oh yeah!
I saw the blondies and the blue eyes, (oh yeah?)
I saw the millions mouthing me, (oh yeah?)
But underneath I was really gentle, (oh yeah?)
Dja ever see me touch a scrap of meat?
O yeah I conquered all those countries
They were weak an I was strong
A little too ambitious maybe,
But I never loved Eva Braun.
Gee!
