BRUSSELS — The authorities have identified three residences in Belgium that were used to prepare for the November attacks in and around Paris, prosecutors said on Wednesday. The revelation reveals new details on how the attackers operated in Belgium to plan their massacre in France.

The three homes were an apartment in the Schaerbeek district of Brussels; an apartment in the city of Charleroi, about 40 miles south of Brussels; and a house in Auvelais, a town just east of Charleroi, according to reporting by The New York Times.

According to prosecutors, a search of the apartment in Schaerbeek revealed bomb-making material; a precision scale; traces of TATP, an explosive used in the suicide vests made for the attacks; waist belts; and "a drawing representing a person wearing a large waist belt."

Authorities also found fingerprints belonging to Salah Abdeslam, a participant in the attacks who is believed to be still alive and on the run. DNA traces from Bilal Hadfi, a 20-year-old who was the youngest of the attackers was also found at the residence. The apartment was rented on Sept. 1 under the fake name of Fernando Castillo, prosecutors said.

Hadfi's fingerprints were also found along with those of Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the attacks, in the Charleroi apartment. The apartment was also rented in September by someone using the fake name of Maaroufi Ibrahim, prosecutors said.

Only mattresses were found at the Auvelais house, which was rented in October by someone who went by the name of Soufiane Kayal. This was an identity used by one of two people whom Abdeslam picked up in Budapest in early September, prosecutors said, according to The New York Times.

Prosecutors added that no weapons were found in any of the residences, which were raided in November and December. All of the residences were rented with cash.

According to investigators, a Seat Leon, the car which was used during the Paris attacks, was used to travel near the residences in Charleroi and Auvelais. Meanwhile, a BMW that was rented by a suspect identified as Mohamed B., was used to travel to areas near all three residences. Mohamed B. is believed to be Mohamed Bakkali, who lived in Auvelais and is one of several men who has already been put under detention.
