21 people dead when bus carrying Mexican soccer team and family plummets into ravine

VERACRUZ, MEXICO — Twenty-one people were killed and dozens were injured after a bus plunged into a ravine in southern Mexico on Monday.

The accident took place at 9 a.m., when a bus carrying a soccer team and their family plunged into a ravine in the mountainous area in Veracruz, local media Milenio reported.

According to Milenio, speeding could be the cause of accident. The driver lost control of the bus after running over a speed bump. The bus then skidded off a bridge fell into a ravine.

AFP reported that the players were enroute to a soccer game and children were among the passengers on the bus.
