Google Fixes Glitch That Translated ‘Russian Federation’ To ‘Mordor’

For a time, Google’s Ukranian to Russian service was translating ‘Russian Federation’ to ‘Mordor’, the fictional evil land created by J.R.R. Tolkien.

Language is often tricky, and can get even more so when translating words from one to another.
Add in the also sensitive task of computer programming, and before you know it, Russian Federation is being translated as ‘Mordor,' the fictional evil land created by J.R.R. Tolkien.
That was but one of the odd translations users of Google’s Ukranian to Russian word swapping service ran into.
