[] Companies that do fracking pay huge. A general fracker needs only a high school diploma. For the first 3 months you make base pay which is 45-52k per year. After that you get a bonus bases on the number of "jobs". A job is a pumping period of 1-6 hours. The more of these yo complete in a day the more the frack crew makes, but each person has their own bonus multiplier based on experience. After the first three months your bonus is so much that yoi can make 150k per year, more if your a good worker, which basically just means you're not a slacker. And it goes up from there as your progress through your training. Oilfield life is not for everyone but making 150k plus a year makes it pretty great regardless.
That job would be a lot of manual labour, however, I took electronics technology with a minor in instrumentation. It was a diploma, however it qualified me for my trade cert which is what I was hired for. You can get this cert after a 9 month course. I have moved out of the technician role but it was an amazing job. Spend most of the day sitting in a trailer they provide dicking around on the internet or playing ps4. Due to safety issues you cannot work while they are pumping which they try to do ALL day because of their bonus. They provide everything for you while you are at the wellsite. 90% of the time you are doing nothing, the other 10% of the time is the most possible pressure you can imagine....ie if something breaks and they can't pump they are going to hate you, cause you're the only one getting paid until they start pumping again.
So with a high-school diploma you can do heavy labour and get 150k/yr....but with a 9 month course you can make 150k/yr basically doing nothing. If talking northern Alberta and BC, aka frack country. Grande prairie ab is the hub of this area. Others are Dawson Creek BC and fort St John BC. Doesn't matter though because they will fly you in and out.

Seems better to just study up on tech, find a remote area with decent resources, and start a little colony. There have to be a few left.
