Armed commandos assassinated the mayor of a southern Mexican city and two other people in her home, one day after she took office, state authorities said.
Two of the attackers were reportedly killed by police as they fled the scene Saturday, and three suspects were apprehended later in the surrounding vicinity, state police commissioner Alberto Capella said.
Mota took office on Friday, the same day that Morelos launched a joint operation of 600 state and federal agents to provide security in and around Cuernavaca, south of Mexico City.
