Zahran Alloush, the commander of Jaysh al-Islam, one of the most prominent armed opposition faction in Syria, has been reportedly killed in a Russian airstrike, two rebel sources said on Friday.
Alloush was said to have been taking part in a meeting of the groups top leadership in the Marj al-Sultan neighborhood in Eastern Ghouta when the strike occurred.
Eastern Ghouta, which is under the control of Jaysh al-Islam is regularly bombarded by government and Russian forces.
When asked about the Russian involvement in Syria, Alloush said it would "cause more destruction and death for the Syrian people," and that the Russian intervention was "the result of the regime's failure in the war with the revolution."
