'Big Short' tries to liven housing crisis

Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell star in the movie adaption of Michael Lewis' book 'The Big Short.'
The subject matter is dry, but at least it's made entertaining in director Adam McKay's The Big Short , a tragi-comic satire of sorts about iffy dealings in the housing industry and how a small group of people could see the 2008 financial crisis coming years before America had to bail out its banks.
The Big Short  revolves around the young bros and old white guys who were the villains of the burst housing bubble of the mid-2000s, though the movie's main characters are the ones who foresee the series of bad home loans and future defaults that will ultimately lead to a spectacular market collapse.
Known for broad comedies such as Talladega Nights and Anchorman , McKay tries to put a humorous touch on his and Charles Randolph's screenplay based on Michael Lewis' book The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine .
