The Lion Guard is an American animated television series created by Ford Riley based on the 1994 film The Lion King. The TV series was first broadcast as a television movie, titled The Lion Guard: Return of the Roar on Disney Channel on November 22, 2015 and will later continue to air as a TV series on January 15, 2016 on Disney Junior and Disney Channel. It is the second television series to be based on The Lion King, the other being the TV series Timon & Pumbaa, which ran from 1995-1999. The series is a sequel to the original film and a midquel to its 1998 sequel The Lion King II: Simba's Pride
Plot

Kion, prince of The Pride Lands realizes that he is the next Lion Guard. Tradition says the second born of the reigning king will be the Lion Guard. Simba asks Kion to collect the fiercest, fastest, strongest, bravest lions in The Pride Lands. Kion takes his friends Bunga, a honey badger, Fuli, a cheetah, Beshte, a hippopotamus and Ono, an egret. Simba is disappointed and says Kion is not ready to be the guard. During a hyena invasion, Kiara is stuck in a stampede. The Lion Guard takes action and rescues Kiara. Kion and his friends prove their mettle to Simba and he accepts them as the new Lion Guard.
