Colombia: Supreme Court Absolves Colonel in Forcibly Disappeared Case
  • 8 years ago
Citing a lack of physical evidence, the Colombian Supreme Court voted to absolve and release retired colonel Alfonso Plaza Vega for his role in the enforced disappearance of two people in the 1985 Palace of Justice siege. Plaza had been sentenced to 30 years in prison. Relatives of the forcibly disappeared strongly rejected the ruling. In 2014 the Inter-American Court of Human Rights declared the Colombian government responsible for the disappearances. Natalia Margarita reports from Bogota. teleSUR
