Brazil: Supreme Court Halts Rousseff Impeachment ... For Now
  • 8 years ago
The Brazilian Supreme Court, in a ruling issued late Thursday, halted the impeachment process against President Dilma Rousseff due to procedural violations committed in the lower house of congress. If the opposition wishes to proceed, it will have to start from the beginning in the Chamber of Deputies and obtain the 2/3 majority necessary for the impeachment motion to then go to the Senate for a final vote. Rousseff is accused of manipulating accounting ledgers to cover up revenue shortfalls, but adamately denies any wrong-doing. teleSUR
