Defence & Diplomacy: TAPI-A New Silk Route
  • 8 years ago
The Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, India gas pipeline has been in the offing for over two decades but has finally been launched. Afghanistan, which is likely to benefit most from the project is very optimistic but it the success of the project is dependent on the security situation improving in Afghanistan.
It is being hoped that with the lifting of the sanctions on Iran, India may rejoin the Iran Pakistan India gas pipeline.
The budgeting for the project is still not very clear but is hoped that the Asian Development Bank will come forth. The project when completed by 2018/19 at a cost of 11 billion US Dollars, is likely to allay some of the gas requirements of Pakistan and India.
