Venezuela: 185th Anniversary of Simon Bolivar’s Death

Venezuela is commemorating 185 years since the death of the man known as The Liberator, Simon Bolivar. Born in Caracas on July 24, 1783, he is regarded as one of the most important figures in South America, and a hero of freedom. Together with Jose de San Martin, he led independence struggles in Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Peru and Venezuela. His legacy of unity, independence and anti-colonialism remains alive across Latin America today. Simon Bolivar died near Santa Marta, Colombia, on December 17, 1830. teleSUR
