Closest Potentially Habitable Planet Discovered Outside Solar System
  • 8 years ago
Astronomers in Australia have discovered that a known star called Wolf 1061 has three planetary bodies orbiting it, and one, called Wolf 1061c, is located in the "habitable zone."

Conditions have to be just right for a planet to be able to host life, and astronomers in Australia believe they have located such a body.
The orb revolves around a red dwarf star called Wolf 1061, which is described as unusually calm and stable for the type.
Although scientists have been aware of the star's existence for nearly 100 years, its three orbiting planets remained hidden until recently.
