Honduras: Gov't Loses 2 Key Int'l Court Battles
  • 8 years ago
This year, the Honduran government lost two key cases in the Inter-American Human Rights Court. The first involved the violation of judicial guarantees, in which four Supreme Court judges were suspended for refusing to go along with the 2009 coup that ousted president Manuel Zelaya. The second case concerned the Garifunas indigenous communities, which were evicted from their lands to make room for tourism projects. In both cases the Honduran government was found guilty of abusing its power. Gerardo Torres reports from Tegucigalpa. teleSUR
