School goes full PC: bans Santa, Thanksgiving, Pledge of Allegiance
  • 8 years ago
NEW YORK — A New York public school has gone into politically correct overdrive by banning all mention of Santa Claus and rebranding Christmas as "winter celebrations."

But Eujin Jaela Kim, the principal at PS 169 in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, hasn't stopped there.

She also insists staff and students refer to Thanksgiving as a "harvest festival" and has stopped recitals of the Pledge of Allegiance, the New York Post reports.

Some 95 percent of the 1,600 kids at the school are Asian or Hispanic.

A memo sent by assistant principal Jose Chapparo last month urged staff to "be sensitive of the diversity of our families. Not all children celebrate the same holidays," according to the New York Post.

Teachers and parents are dismayed by Kim's directives, the New York Post reports.

"We definitely can't say Christmas, nothing with Christmas on it, nothing with Santa," PTA president Mimi Ferrer said administrators told her, according to the New York Post.

"No angels. We can't even have a star because it can represent a religious system, like the Star of David."
